چکیده

Abstract Objective The present study examined the differential effect of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) Val66Met polymorphism on neuropsychological functioning in children with traumatic brain injury (TBI) relative to orthopedic (OI). Method Participants were drawn from a prospective, longitudinal who sustained TBI (n = 69) or OI 72) between 3 and 7 years age. Children completed battery measures targeting attention, memory, executive functions at four time points spanning immediate post-acute period 18 months post-injury. also comparable age-appropriate approximately Parents rated children’s all points. Results Longitudinal mixed models revealed significant allele status x group interaction for verbal fluency (p 0.007) non-significant trend parent-rated dysexecutive behaviors 0.069), cross-sectional post-injury fluid reasoning skills 0.074). Post hoc analyses suggested consistent pattern poorer Met carriers Val/Val homozygotes group; contrast, opposite was observed group. Conclusions results suggest BDNF fluency, behaviors, early OI, that allele—associated reduced activity-dependent secretion BDNF—confers risk TBI.

Background: Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a serious neuropsychiatric disorder. The clinical prominence of the OCD symptoms dimensions and Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Val66Met polymorphism are of significant importance. Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the symptom dimensions and BDNF val66Met polymorphism genotype in Iranian patients with OCD. Materia...

increased expression of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor in rat brain after traumatic brain injury

glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (gdnf) plays important roles not only for the differentiation of neurons during normal development but also for the survival and recovery of many populations of mature neurons. the effect of traumatic brain injury (tbi) on the expression of gdnf is currently unknown. to determine if there is alteration in gdnf after tbi we examined the effect of contr...

Neuropsychological and Neuropsychiatric Deficits Following Traumatic Brain Injury: Common Patterns and Neuropathological Mechanisms

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in all degrees of injury severity mainly induces deviant cognitive, emotional and behavioral alterations that lead to their respective disorders. This brief overview strives to define the variables that determine the risk of occurrence of these disorders and to describe the common patterns of these disorders and their relevant neuropathogenetic mechanism(s). In addi...

Preservation of General Intelligence following Traumatic Brain Injury: Contributions of the Met66 Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) promotes survival and synaptic plasticity in the human brain. The Val66Met polymorphism of the BDNF gene interferes with intracellular trafficking, packaging, and regulated secretion of this neurotrophin. The human prefrontal cortex (PFC) shows lifelong neuroplastic adaption implicating the Val66Met BDNF polymorphism in the recovery of higher-order execu...

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a syndrome causing from a severe traumatic happening that leads to threatened death or injury. PTSD is associated with changes in limbic, hippocampal, and prefrontal cortical region function due to changes in synaptogenesis, dendritic modifying, and neurogenesis. Changes in neuron in PTSD patients result from pathophysiological disturbances in inflammato...
